Birchgrove is a highly sought after suburb located 5km west of the Sydney Central Business District in the Northern part of the Balmain peninsular. It is considered to be one of the premium residential suburbs of the Inner West.
Louisa Road has many waterfront houses that are very tightly held, and often come with jetties. The Northern side has great views to the Western side of the harbour including Cockatoo Island, Greenwich & Woolwich. The Southern side looks over Snails Bay and towards the CBD.
Birchgrove houses are mostly a mix of sandstone and weatherboard cottages, but there are also many terraces and modern houses. Many of the older properties have been beautifully renovated, but it is still possible to find “renovators delights”.
Local parks include Birchgrove Oval & Ballast Point Park. The local primary school is the highly regarded Birchgrove Public School.
Public transport is good with the ferry to Circular Quay at Birchgrove Wharf and regular buses service the area from Birchgrove Oval to the QVB.
Although there are some local shops, most of the major shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and amenities are located in adjacent Balmain.
